Nikkah and civil ceremony service
SBWA Marriage Ceremony Packages
Overview
From July 2025, the Somali Bravanese Welfare Association (SBWA) has been certified by the Home Office UK as a place of meeting for religious worship at number 86895 and registered for the solemnisation of marriages at number 45706 for opposite sex marriage registrations only.
As part of our service, we can conduct a Nikaah (Islamic Marriage) and the English Marriage Registry (Civil Marriage) for the local community. The ceremony is conducted by our resident Imam and the London Borough of Barnet Council registrar, which includes both “Islamic and civil” registration.
The civil formality procedure includes Words of Declaration, a Contract and signing official documents, e.g, the Marriage Certificate and Declaration Form. The religious formality procedure includes “Recitation of the Qur’an, a nikah sermon (khutbah) and dua”.
Please contact the Barnet (or your local council) register office to give notice, dates, etc, and mention you will be booking your ceremony at the SBWA venue. Then contact us to get your preferred dates so we can match with the registrar’s office (as they need to attend). For more information on Marriages and Civil Partnerships, you can visit this website: Government Marriage and Civil Partnership guidance
If you need further information and guidance on this process and the procedure, please don’t hesitate to contact us via email at marriageregistry@sbwa.org.uk
